Chris Nicholls' involvement with CIS began with the first operational deployment of BATES (Battlefield Artillery Target Engagement System) to Bosnia in 1996. The balance of his military career saw increased involvement with (to use the terminology of the day) Network Enabled Capability and Digitization of the Battlespace Land, which included co-authoring initial national concept documents. He joined Dstl in 2009 at the conclusion of his military service and for almost all of the time since then, has held the role of 'Principal Adviser' for Tactical C4I, focussing on Land Battlespace operations at brigade, battlegroup and below. He works with Ground Manoeuvre and C4ISTAR capability staff in Army HQ and NCHQ, relevant delivery teams in DE&S and ISS, as well as subject matter experts in Dstl, wider Industry and Academia - both in UK and with other NATO nations.
